These delightful heart-shaped cookies are both easy to make and irresistibly delicious~ This recipe is part of a series recreating Cooking Mama recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup (150 g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup + 4 tsp (120 g) powdered sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 small egg

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2+3/4 cup (350 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1-3 tbsp cocoa powder

Instructions:

  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, beating well until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the salt and flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  • Divide the dough in half. Remove one portion and set it aside.
  • Add cocoa powder to the remaining dough in the mixing bowl and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Cover each portion of dough separately with cling wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 40 minutes.
  • On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the plain cookie dough. Use the larger heart-shaped cutter to cut out your cookies (I use this heart cookie cutters). Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and return them to the fridge to firm up for about 20 minutes. Repeat this process with the chocolate dough.
  • Once firm, remove the cookies from the fridge and use the smaller heart-shaped cutter to cut small hearts out of the center of the large hearts. Place the small hearts of different colors in the center of the larger cookies.
  • Bake in the preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
